Innovative cardiac surgery and care
Technology has come a long way to make cardiac surgery easier and safer. At Lakeview Regional Physician Group, we rely on trusted advances in modern medicine to help our patients recover as quickly as comfortably as possible.
Types of cardiac surgery
Cardiac surgery is performed to make preventive alterations or emergency corrections that can help to stabilize the heart and increase life expectancy. Common heart surgeries include the following:
Surgeons redirect a healthy artery to the heart, which allows blood to be rerouted around (or bypass) a clogged artery.
Cardiac surgeons use a graft to replace a part of an artery that is bulging due to the weakening of the artery wall.
Heart arrhythmia surgery
If an irregular heartbeat doesn't respond to medication or a pacemaker or defibrillator, it may require surgical intervention. Atrial fibrillation, in particular, may require a Maze procedure, which redirects the electrical impulses of the heart.
Other common cardiothoracic surgeries include the following:
- Valve repair and replacement
- Thoracoscopic lung surgery
- Esophageal surgery
- Carotid Endarterectomy
Cardiothoracic surgery requires more recovery time than minimally invasive interventional cardiology treatments, so they are usually only recommended when more conservative treatments haven't produced the desired effect.
Before and after care for cardiac operations
Prior to your operation, we will provide you with detailed pre-op information about your procedure and answer any questions you may have. We will then complete your patient registration and related testing, and you will receive an arrival time and instructions as to what you can eat or drink, what you should wear, and how to get to the office. After your surgery, you will work on recovery goals with your care team, who will help you manage pain, increase mobility, and develop healthy habits for increased recovery success
The physicians at Lakeview Regional Physician Group offer both extensive skill and genuine compassion for their patients. If you're in need of a trusted cardiothoracic surgeon, call us today at (985) 882-6221 to schedule an appointment.
