When a cardiologist suspects that a patient may be suffering from a heart condition or simply needs to monitor their cardiac progress, they may recommend testing in order to more clearly view the inner workings of the heart or the patient's veins. At Lakeview Regional Physician Group, our skilled cardiac team uses specialized diagnostic resources to examine the individual circumstances of our patients and provide comprehensive treatment options personalized to their needs.
What Is Cardiac Imaging?
Cardiac imaging is a visual tool that provides physicians with images of a patient's heart. These images allow them to observe the size and shape of the heart, diagnose cardiac conditions, and monitor progress after treatments and procedures. Using cardiac imaging, doctors can assess the condition of the heart with urgency and efficiency so that care plans can be established as needed.
There are many reasons for a cardiologist to order further testing, especially if patients are experiencing symptoms such as the following:
- Shortness of breath during rest or mild activity
- Pain or discomfort in the chest
- Irregular heartbeat
- Severe weakness or dizziness
While these symptoms do not always indicate a cause for concern, testing may be recommended to rule out certain conditions, especially for patients with elevated risk factors such as smoking, obesity, uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure and/or cholesterol, or a family history of cardiac diseases.
What Is Vein Imaging?
Vein imaging allows our vascular surgeons to assess how well blood flows throughout the body as well as how large the veins are. This type of testing can help diagnose issues such as deep vein thrombosis, arterial occlusion, and peripheral vascular disease. Vein imaging also helps with dialysis; an upper and lower extremity ultrasound can be used to check which blood vessels may be used as a lower extremity bypass graft or for upper extremity AV fistula placement. A carotid artery ultrasound can also help our physicians determine if the patient will benefit from TCAR (TransCarotid Artery Revascularization), a relatively new treatment for carotid artery disease.
Cardiac and Vein Imaging Services We Offer
Lakeview Regional Physician Group uses both traditional and innovative cardiac imaging services for the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of cardiac concerns, including the following:
- Computed tomography (CT)
- Cardiac ultrasounds (echocardiography)
- Nuclear imaging (PET)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Coronary angiograms
- Upper and lower extremity vein mapping (ultrasound)
- Venous and arterial imaging
- Venous procedures
These cardiac and vein imaging tests can allow our physicians to gain a better understanding of how your heart and vascular system is working.
